Calling all Batmen! The Congress Avenue bridge is a bat cave. Starting in late March and continuing through early fall, North America's largest urban bat population calls Austin home. The bats begin to wake up and start their night flight around sunset. The first few bats begin to trickle out from under the bridge then. After the sun sets, the show really begins, and hundreds to thousands of bats pour out and cascade East over Lady Bird Lake. Come early to get your spot. It sounds weird, but it's a must do in Austin!
Rainey Street is one of the newer parts of Austin to be developed. Full of bars and restaurants, there is something for everyone. If you are into Indian Cuisine, G'Raj Mahal is by far our favorite in town. Bangers Sausage House and Beer Garden, Craft Pride, Javelina, and The Container Bar are some of our favorites!
The Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin is one of the largest university art museums in the U.S. Admission ranges from $5 to $9 and exhibits change throughout the year. It's a great way to escape the heat and see a different side to Austin.
Calling all history buffs!! Touring the Texas Capitol is popular for many people visiting Austin. Home to our second date, the Capitol is made of pink granite, and taller than the U.S. Capitol building. Make sure you whisper in the Rotunda because everything echos!
Want to learn about the spookier side to Austin, urban legends, and Austin secrets? We recommend the Austin Haunted Ghost Tours. For $25.00 a person, you'll go on a 2.5-3 hour pub crawl tour of downtown Austin, stopping in bars along the way. We had a blast when we did this with friends and learned a few things too.
