Both originally from New York - Rob from Syracuse and Kelly from Staten Island - met in Texas. We swiped right in November 2017 and it was a match made in the land of tinder. Working around the Thanksgiving Holiday and then Kelly getting the Flu, we finally had our first date on December 18, 2017. We went to Mozart’s Coffee house in Austin for their annual Christmas light’s show. Rob was late because of traffic and Kelly didn’t wear heels because she was tired of towering over her dates. Boy was she in for a surprise! We immediately hit it off and talked for hours. We bonded over our love of sports (Rob was impressed that Kelly played Fantasy football) and hiking and growing up in very close-knit families. We had our second date two days later before Rob left to spend the holidays back in New York. They talked everyday during those two weeks and have been together ever since. After 10 months of dating, Kelly and Molly officially moved in.
In May 2019, we decided to drive to Arizona for a vacation. It was the ultimate test before we got engaged. How could we get married, if we couldn’t spend hours in the car together? We both passed the test and it sealed the deal. We got home and Kelly went out to a concert. Rob stayed back in New Braunfels and asked for her hand in marriage. Kelly’s parents waited and grew anxious.. So did other friends and family members. When was he going to pop the question? He bought the ring and after talking to a friend decided not to ask before he went to Europe in June. Rob then planned a surprise vacation and proposal. On July 2, Kelly anxiously packed for a trip. She had no idea where they were going. The next day, the secret came out at the airport - we were going to Los Angeles! He planned a full agenda. We started our trip experiencing the first earthquake and celebrating America’s birthday at the Dodgers game. The next day, we drove down to Laguna Beach. Kelly was obsessed with the show and Rob knew he had to bring her there. That day Mike kept texting Kelly asking if she was engaged yet. What was Rob waiting for? Rob was nervous; Kelly was anxious. That night we went to dinner in Long Beach and experienced the second earthquake! After dinner, we drove down to Huntington Beach. We got there and Kelly was cold and of course, complained. Rob didn’t cave in and leave. We went for a walk on the beach. Rob knew all along that is where he wanted to propose. Kelly loves the beach and he knew it would be the perfect, intimate moment. We paused on the beach and Rob rambled (he’s a nervous talker). Kelly grew anxious because it felt like an eternity. He got down on one knee and asked Kelly to marry him!! She said yes and large amounts of happy tears ran down her face. After several minutes, the cops yelled at us to get off the beach. We celebrated our first day as fiancés in Catalina Island and waited a few more days before we called family and friends sharing the big news!
