Travel Note
We recommend Airbnb or VRBO inner SE/NE Portland (east of the Willamette River and west of 82nd Ave) because that's where the festivities are. There are some old Portland houses Jen would love to check out when you are here. She and Rob offer to help anyone find an Airbnb; email them at jensmithrankin@gmail.com and rankinrob50@gmail.com. Most hotels are across the river downtown which, as some media outlets would lead you to believe, is not a war zone. We do not have a block of rooms at a hotel.
Travel Note
If you are flying, there is a light rail train from PDX airport, the MAX red line, that costs a mere $2.50 (!) and will get you into the central city in 40 minutes. The name of the public transportation here is Trimet and you can download an app to pay fare on your phone and plan trips. Google maps works pretty well to tell you how to take the MAX and busses around town. There are also bicycle and e-scooter rentals that you can find on many sidewalks, but alas they are bring-your-own-helmet. The Mt. Tabor Amphitheater shows up on Google Maps. There is a small lot near the event site and cars can park along roads on Mt. Tabor. If you take the bus the walk is short but uphill.
