Things To Do

Explore Virginia

Visit Charlottesville

University of Virginia

Charlottesville, VA

We first met at the University of Virginia back in 2016 when Rob was on exchange from the University of Birmingham, UK. The University of Virginia was founded by Thomas Jefferson and contains his Academical Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bring a picnic (we recommend Bodo's Bagels!) and eat on the Lawn after exploring the Rotunda and campus at the University of Virginia. Our favorite spots to explore and relax with a picnic lunch are the many gardens behind the Lawn residences.

Shenandoah National Park

Wonderful hiking, gorgeous drives, and camping and lodging to enjoy the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains. The park will be busy in the fall, so if you wish to stay here during your visit, book early!

Humpback Rock

Popular hike for a sunrise if you dare the climb! There is a short (1 mile) but very strenuous climb to spectacular views across the Rockfish Valley and to Shenandoah National Park.

Chiles Peach Orchard and Farm Market

1351 Greenwood Road, Crozet, VA 22932

Come for the pick-your-own apples, apple cider donuts, and if we're lucky, some late-season peach ice cream will still be around in late September. Anne Marie used to work next to Chiles Peach Orchard and it holds a special place in her heart.

The Roseland Polo Club at King Family Vineyards

6550 Roseland Farm, Crozet, VA 22932

The options here are all good - you like horses? Good. You like wine and mountain views? Good. Enjoy both at a free polo match every Sunday starting at 12pm. Come earlier to claim a spot next to the field. It's very family-friendly and great for bringing picnic food, but alcohol must be bought from the winery. Anne Marie used to work as a groom for summer matches at King Family.

Glass House Winery

5898 Free Union Road, Free Union, VA 22940

Our favorite winery in the Charlottesville area due to the incredible greenhouse-like setting and delectable chocolate pairings. There are so many wineries to visit: https://www.visitcharlottesville.org/wineries/

Brew Ridge Trail

9519 Critzer Shop Road, Afton, VA 22920

Do you like views or do you like beer? You don't have to pick with the Brew Ridge Trail, a self-guided tour of craft breweries and cideries. Bring a picnic and your ever-patient designated driver, and check out the brewery websites in case there's any live music on to enjoy. Blue Mountain Brewery is a particular favorite for Rob.

The Southern Café and Music Hall

103 1st Street South, Charlottesville, VA 22902

Favorite music venue in Charlottesville, perfect for a relaxed evening. Other stellar venues close nearby are Miller's, The Jefferson, and the Ting Pavilion.
