Yes there are a few ground rules at The Silver Sixpence all guests should be aware of. Alcohol: Please note that no alchohol may be brought onto the premises by guests. Strictly No Smoking in the Forest: The Forest Chapel is a high-fire-risk area. If smoking is observed in the forest, the ceremony will be moved immediately to the indoor chapel. Not at all! While the venue is tucked away in the Highlands, the roads are accessible for all standard passenger vehicles. You will encounter a stretch of gravel road leading to the farm, but it is well-maintained and does not require a 4x4.
We suggest the Gooderson Kloppenheim Country Resort for those not staying on the venue, but there are many options within a 10km radius that might fit individual needs better.
There is plenty to do on the farm itself. The farm is 300 hectares of rolling grasslands and all of our guests have full access over the weekend! The venue has four stocked trout dams for fly-fishing, which is strictly catch and release. So feel free to bring your fishing gear and your best flies. There are scenic forest and mountain walks which lead to a waterfall. For animal lovers there are multiple indigenous buck and other species on the farm and it is a popular birding spot!
Dullstroom is a 50 minute drive from the venue and it offers quite a lot of different activities. From quaint décor shops, art galleries, great local restaurants and whisky & gin tastings I'm sure you'll find a lot to do! Some other highlights in and around Dullstroom include The Bird of Prey & Rehabilitation Centre and Highland Gate Golf Club. For a quick and easy breakfast pop in to the famous Millys on the N4, about a 10 minute drive from the venue, and try their famous trout pies!
