On New Years Eve 2019, we went to the Andrew Mellon gala with our respective friend groups. Within the venue, there were multiple rooms featuring various genres of music. Regis and his friends were positioned outside of the reggae room in which my friends and I brought in the new year. Seeking a change of scenery, I walked towards the main room to get a feel of the music being played. The moment I stepped over the threshold, Regis waved across the crowd and said 'hey!' I waved back, he walked over, and magic happened. Towards the end of the conversation, Regis placed a bow on his words stating 'if you give me your number, I promise you won't regret it." We went out the following day and I must say, he has been a man of his word!
From the moment we met, I knew our connection was different. In May 2019, I quit my job to pursue entrepreneurship. Enduring the ebbs and flows of this journey has allowed Brianna and I to truly engage our innermost thoughts, feelings, and desires, as we both work from home. By October, I decided I would ask her parents for her hand in marriage while she was on business travel. They gave their blessing and the planning began! Although I am a lot more private, Brianna has always expressed that she would prefer to share in this special moment with our family and friends. In early December, we traveled to Atlanta and I was able to meet with the jeweler while Brianna was in meetings. Over the following weeks, I finalized plans with the help of our village, and had the ring picked up and transported to D.C. by my sister, Charnise, the morning of the surprise. On New Years Eve 2020, we were somehow able to pull this off without her knowledge and in front of about 70 witnesses while her close friend sung 'You & I' by John Legend, My Queen said yes to forever with me!
