FAQs

Question

How do we get there?

Answer

Check out the Travel and Lodging page but in a nutshell - fly into San Diego International Airport!

Question

Where should we stay?

Answer

Wherever you want! There is no shortage of hotels in San Diego but if you go to the Travel and Lodging page, there are some recommendations for both near the Safari Park where the wedding festivities will be as well as hotels near downtown San Diego where there are more things to do. If you prefer a more residential feeling, there's always AirBnB. Just remember to be respectful of the neighborhood. Some people are always looking for an excuse to lodge a complaint against renters! We suggest at least booking a hotel near the wedding venue for August 1st so that you have a place nearby to clean up and get ready for the big event after spending a full day at the Safari Park.

Question

How do we get around?

Answer

You can rent a car from the enormous rental car facility by the airport. They have all of the major brands and then some. See the Travel and Lodging page for more information. You can Uber/Lyft. This is very popular in San Diego because you don't have to worry about parking and there's always a driver nearby at all hours of the day. Public transit is not really all that great in San Diego but it is possible, albeit very time-consuming. Google maps is a good place to explore those routes. Eh...just don't do it.

Question

Why are you getting married at a zoo? Are you wild animals??

Answer

Basically, we love the planet. San Diego Zoo Global - of which Safari Park is a part - is one of our favorite causes. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving endangered species through conservation science. One of the things you’ll notice immediately is that the animals are not cooped up in tiny little cages for you to gawk at. Expansive habitats have been built for them so they can be in a more natural environment. You may or may not see them. This isn’t just for their comfort - these native habitats allow the animals to engage in their natural behaviors. The scientists can then observe these behaviors to better understand the animals and gain insight into how to help them flourish in the wild. We believe in doing everything we can to help - even the invitations you received are printed on recycled paper with a net zero carbon impact! So how does having our wedding at the Safari Park help? 100% of the proceeds from our wedding will go towards San Diego Zoo Global’s mission!

Question

What’s that pretty building on the home page?

Answer

That’s the Botanic Garden at Balboa Park! Balboa Park hosts 16 museums, oodles of trails, several theatres, many gardens, a couple of restaurants, and sports complexes (where we play tennis) as well as the world famous San Diego Zoo, of which the Safari Park is a sister site. Definitely worth exploring if you have the time.

Question

Is the wedding going to be an all-night rager??

Answer

It can be! Just not at the zoo. See below for their Code of Conduct. Code of Conduct All visitors to the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner at all times while on the Premises. Any behavior that authorized SDZ Global personnel deems to be unlawful, disruptive, or objectionable to other visitors or employees, or potentially or actually damaging to the animals, plants or property of the SDZ Global or to other persons, shall be cause for refusal or revocation of admission or continued presence at the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The SDZ Global through its authorized personnel adheres to all applicable local, state and federal laws, which will be strictly enforced.

Question

How’d that proposal go?

Answer
