We met the old fashioned way--the Bumble dating app! Both of us had recently moved to Utah, Connor from Texas and Rebecka from Missouri. Amidst swiping left and right, Rebecka came across Connor's profile. Handsome guy, who seemed to LOVE Texas and his dog. Connor had a brief description of who he was and what he was looking for, which ended with 'and if you ever want to watch my dog, that's cool too!'. So naturally, Rebecka replied to Connor, for the first time, with "are you using a dating app to find a dog walker?" Connor responded with "Of course!" and the rest, as they say, is history. Before we knew it, we were chatting on the app daily, and even had a few conversations that lasted until 3 or 4 in the morning. After all this talk, laughs, getting to know you questions, and a cocktail or two through the app, we decided to meet in person. Our first date was at the Angry Goat Bar in downtown Ogden, still one of our favorite spots that you can see in our "Things to Do" section. It was a night that like our online conversations lasted longer than we both probably thought it would, because we are both SO AWESOME. It was a first date filled with great conversation, lots of laughing, great stories, comparing our dogs Addy and Foxy, and of course enjoying each other's company. We haven't looked back since that date and everything has only gotten better! We even added a third dog, welcoming Zoey to the family as a pandemic impulse buy!
Connor originally planned to propose to Rebecka during a trip to Ireland in May 2020. However, as COVID-19 settled in to stay, so did we and we had to cancel our trip. Rebecka knew the proposal was coming though, just not how or when since things were mostly closed down here in Utah. One evening in June, Connor suggested scheduling a day to go zip-lining as a way to get out of the house and do something outdoors, not around a lot of people. Rebecka was sure this was his plan, to propose while zip-lining. She might even have told several girlfriends that 'this was it'! Zip-lining was really fun, a great time was had by all. Atop every tower, Rebecka thought, ok this is it, he's going to do it. Narrator: he did not. Back in the car after a long afternoon, Rebecka had to respond to several texts saying 'nope, didn't happen, I really mis-read this!'. We were tired and hungry when we got home, so Connor asked Rebecka to go pick up take-out. To be clear, Rebecka never picks up take-out, that's Connor's job. But since he drove all day, Rebecka went. Connor texts Rebecka asking where she was, which was weird--getting food man! Turns out, he was buying himself time to set up an engagement scavenger hunt back home. Connor went so far as to tell Rebecka that the garage door was broken, to come in the front door (Rebecka knew this was a lie having just used the door, but played along). There were instructions on the front door and both dogs met Rebecka inside, each with a red envelope. Addy and Foxy had the first 2 clues to a well designed "hiking trail" Connor set up throughout the house. Rebecka was guided upstairs by a pathway of hand sanitizers, wound through bedrooms, opening new envelopes at each stop filled with photos and a favorite memory of the relationship. After passing through the trail of the COVID-19 wine and bourbon bottle collection in the garage, Connor met Rebecka outside (in a suit jacket and Firefly t-shirt), got on one knee, and asked her to marry him.
