How We Met

9.14.18

We met in the city for drinks. We talked...a lot. Becca overshared and Paul was gracious and attentive. Paul didn't know what to make of this energetic girl, and Becca thought she must be the most interesting person this Ohioan had ever met. At the end of the night Becca's uber driver asked about the date and exclaimed, "An engineer with social skills? Lady, you found yourself a unicorn!" That's when she knew she found something special. Despite impulsively getting tattoos together on the 3rd date; Becca and Paul took their time in getting to know each other. We waited several months before we both felt ready for Becca to meet Paul's 6 year old son, Ryan. He showed her his ninja turtles table, she wiggled around on the floor pretending to be an otter. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. We realized we were both in love while on our first real trip together. Paul took 2 flights, a bumpy van, and a covered tricycle to meet Becca in the Philippines to swim with Whale Sharks. Becca nearly drowned Paul trying to show him the sharks. We traveled on top of bus roofs, rode ATVs to a volcano, drove a motorcycle in the rain, and took a sinking boat to a disappearing island. It was the start of a true adventure and we realized we never wanted this feeling to end.

The Proposal

4.29.23

Even though she said she "probably wouldn't" leave Paul if they didn't schedule a trip, Paul felt it was prudent to humor her weekend-away desires. It started out as a typical Classic Paul and Becca Adventure - camping on volcanoes, diving with manta rays, offroading in a Jeep - but this trip seemed a little different. Paul booked a dinner reservation at a fancy restaurant. We arrived (to Becca's temporal complaints) at 5:30pm and were met with a torrential downpour. It was the only spot on the entire island that had any rain at all (see gallery photo of radar map). We sheltered indoors with cocktails until the wet subsided, at which point we ventured down to the now empty beach. Paul unsuccessfully tried to keep Becca from running into the ocean. Paul slowed down, to Becca's great annoyance (she wanted to go over THERE). However, unbeknownst to Becca, Paul had very specific instructions as to where to stand on the beach. Becca eventually stood in one place and Paul got down on one knee and proposed. With the assurance of Ryan's knowledge and approval, Becca said YES! Paul then turned to Becca and exclaimed, "I'm so glad I get to share this special moment with you... and my friend Kris." Paul turned and gestured to a man who, soaking wet, jumped out of the bushes with a camera. It was then that Becca learned that Paul had secretly hired a photographer (thanks CoupleCups!) to document the entire event. He had been there since 5:30pm. We're so excited to celebrate this next adventure in our lives with you. See you on the Cape!
