Robert and Emily met in the year 2009, a year before Emily moved to Pittsburgh. When they first met, Robert was instantly smitten... but Emily did not know about this until much later. It was a bit of a journey for them to end up together, but they were friends first. One fateful night, Emily's roommate invited Robert over for some fancy beers and music-listening. It was then that Robert kissed Emily outside in the snow, after inadvertantly quoting dialogue directly from Spider-Man which really cements the geeky foundation of their relationship. "You're taller than you look." "I hunch." "Don't." Together Emily and Robert endeavored on their college journeys at the University of Pittsburgh. They were both DJs at the Pitt radio station (WPTS) and at one point they had their own show together called The Odd Couple. They are both pretty odd people sometimes, but their pairing is anything but. Robert proposed to Emily in Portland in June of 2019, while they were in attendance to visit some good friends who were also getting married that weekend. (Don't worry, Robert cleared it with them first). At the International Rose Test Garden in Portland, they were strolling through the crowds and taking pictures when Robert pulled Emily off into a side-garden that was less populated (the Shakespeare Garden). There they sat on a bench and Robert pulled out a thick leather tome, a collector's edition of a book from one of Emily's favorite fantasy authors. Once Emily was distracted by the book, he pulled out the ring from a leather satchel he had been using that once belonged to Emily's late father. He handed her the ring and asked her "Will you let me swear to carry your burdens?" Emily said yes, and made him carry her camera bag for the rest of the day.
