HdG’s #1 attraction! (… it’s a small town). Take a stroll down this half-mile boardwalk at the edge of the Chesapeake Bay to take in the wildlife and end up at the historic Concord Point Lighthouse. Be sure to grab some famous Bomboy’s Chocolate or Ice Cream from their nearby shops while you’re there! This area is also home to some quaint museums, such as the Decoy, Maritime, Lock House, and Steppingstone.
The main streets of St John, Washington, and Union are lined with charming 19th century architectural buildings, and make for a pleasant afternoon walk or drive. Stop in one of several coffee shops (Concord Point), restaurants (Abbey Burger), or bars (Coakley’s) along the way and take in the view of the Bay.
This sprawling nature reserve is home to over a dozen trails for some pleasant and amazing walks through the forest. Look closely for Bald Eagles and the Conowingo Dam (fun fact, it was the subject of Ray's Senior Design Engineering Project!)
Though relatively young, several breweries have exploded onto the Harford County scene recently, with spacious grounds and delicious beers. Our favorites include Hopkins Farm, Falling Branch, and Slate Farm.
No visit to this region is complete without some blue crabs dressed in Old Bay! Our local favorite spots are Water Street Seafood for crabs, La Cucina for seafood pasta, and Box Hill for the world’s greatest crab cakes!
Not “local”, but all three of these big cities are under two hours away, and all have extraordinary sightseeing opportunities. Whether you want to catch some baseball (Orioles, Phillies, Nationals), check out Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, eat around Philly’s Reading Terminal Market, or explore DC’s National Mall monuments, you will surely stumble into something fun.
