Two great options are to pair this trip with 1) Napa Valley, San Francisco & Muir Woods Redwoods National Park. 2) Another option is to drive south after the wedding and check out coastal towns (Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Malibu, Santa Monica, etc.) and fly out of Los Angeles! We also lived in San Diego (further south) for over a year and loved it there and would have a lot of recommendations for there if you chose to drive that far south.
