After matching and chatting on dating app OKCupid, we met for our first date at the Coral Tree Café in Brentwood. Jason will always remember Rachel showing up in a walking boot with a strained foot! What started as a couple iced teas turned into dinner and then a walk around the neighborhood. Before we knew it, several hours had passed - and the valet where Jason had left his car closed with his keys locked inside! Needless to say, it was a memorable evening and Jason was quick to lock-in a second date with Rachel.
For the first time since the pandemic started, Rachel went to Kauai with her brother Trevor and his girlfriend Alex to visit their mom Janet, who has lived on Kauai for about 10 years. Jason was unable to join due to a demanding work schedule at Fox Studios. But secretly, Jason had plotted to surprise Rachel with a proposal on Kauai at the end of her trip, and he recruited Janet to help plan the endeavor. After weeks of subterfuge and collusion, which included Jason sending Rachel an inconspicuous photo "at work" while he had just landed on Kauai and Janet planning a "surprise fancy dinner" which turned out to be a surprise engagement party, the moment arrived! Rachel and her family dressed to impress and headed to "dinner" - but first Janet suggested, why not stop at the beach for some sunset family photos? At the shoreline, we took some photos and then ran into a photographer "friend" of Janet's who happened to be there (wink)! Before there was a chance to figure out what was going on, Rachel turned around and saw Jason fast approaching with purpose - and arms full of flowers! We embraced and Jason placed a lei around Rachel's neck before sharing a few private words. Surrounded by family and friends, he got down on one knee and asked the critical question. She answered with a leg wiggle and a big Yes! We celebrated with a photo shoot and engagement party with our Kauai ohana. It was magical, and we are so grateful to everyone involved for helping to make it an unforgettable experience for us!
