To come to Big Sur and not drive the 1 is a travesty! Highway 1 hugs the California coastline and is a winding scenic drive that is certainly a bucket list item. Stop along the way for hiking, redwood forests, unique shops, and scenic views. From Ragged Point, just take Highway 1 North all the way up to Carmel-By-The-Sea, and Monterey.
The Elephant Seal Rookery is the best location to view the massive and unique creatures that can only be found in Big Sur.
Historic Hearst Castle is a beautiful mansion nestled in the hills of Big Sur.
The original "wild west", Paso has become a premier destination for wine enthusiasts alike. With hundreds of wineries to choose from, you will always find something you like! Additionally, there is a super cool light installation called Sensorio. Would not miss it!
Monterey is sometimes considered the “top” of Big Sur, there is so much to see and do here! Check out Monterey Bay Aquarium, peep the sea otters, drive the 17 Mile Drive, tee off at the famous Pebble Beach golf course.
If you are on the hunt to see the famous California Redwoods, go no further than Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park!
To see the infamous McWay Falls, which spills its waters onto the beach and the Pacific Ocean, this is your place to see it. Much of this park has been closed due to recent fires and trails are still be reconstructed, but McWay Falls is a must see location on your drive up the 1.
