How We Met

We met working for Disney in 2013. Weston was my Day 3 trainer for my recreation position at Art of Animation & Pop Century, and he was the one to give me my final test out before I got to work on my own. We were best friends for years while we navigated college, other relationships, school, and our respective Disney Careers.

Reconnecting/Dating

For a couple years, we actually lost touch when Weston moved to North Carolina to pursue a whole life and career as an EMT up north. But during Covid we reconnected and we were both single for the first time ever. So we decided to take a leap of faith and take our friendship to a relationship level. Through a global pandemic, long distance, opposite work schedules, and one crazy move a few states north, our relationship persevered and we found our love for each other stronger than ever. (Bonus! We are now on the same work/sleep schedule and no longer zombies who live at night).

Proposal/Engagement

Despite both of us working at Disney for years, neither one of us had ever been on a Disney cruise and in 2024, we decided to board the DCL Magic for an incredible 5 day cruise for Disney's Halloween on the High Seas. We went trick or treating Disney style, ate some amazing food, and saw some incredible theater shows. But my favorite event took place on our third night aboard the ship when we were casually perusing the gift shops. In true Olivia fashion, I was looking at Mickey and Minnie stuffed animals when suddenly Weston had disappeared. I looked around for him and through the large glass windows I could see Weston just across the hall at the jewelry store talking to the jeweler behind the counter. While we had discussed marriage numerous times, since he hadn't proposed yet, I didn't think it would happen anytime soon. Still, my heart was racing over all the possibilties of what could happen in the next few minutes and I pulled out my phone to text my mom. The text read: "I apologize in advance because this text is going to cost a lot of money, but he disappeared and I can now see he's talking to the guy behind the jewelry counter and I'm freaking out." Not wanting to ruin or assume anything, I tried to keep my cool and stepped out into the hallway at the end of the gift shop I was in and waited. A minute later he came and got me and said he wanted to show me something. He led me back to the jewelry stand and jeweler in question. The guy behind the counter was sweet and showed me a case full of tanzanite style rings and asked me what I liked. In a daze I tried on the rings from the selection of ones Weston had picked out and together we picked a ring that represented me and our relationship best. As I stared at it in awe, Weston asked me to Marry him. I, of course, said yes and then, in also true Olivia fashion, I immediately cried. Through tears and laughter, I opened my phone ready to text my mom and the rest of my family, and found a text from her that only made me laugh harder: "Woman! You can't leave me hanging! What happened?!" I laughed and sent her the pictures of us and my engagement ring and when we got back to shore a few days later, she and my dad bought champagne and togethe we toasted to our engagement. It was truly magical.
