Our Story

Sketchy Beginnings

— It was early fall of 2010 (please don’t do the math here) in Upstate New York, a time when the Finger Lakes had yet to freeze over and optimism was high. Nick was auditioning for Cornell’s premier sketch comedy group, the Skits-o-phrenics (it was…a different time). Among the comedy overlords determining Nick’s fate was Ping: a Californian with a smile like sunshine and a voice like James Earl Jones. Ping decided to welcome this bright-eyed freshman into the group so he could ‘find himself’ (Nick, for the record, was a junior) but harbored a not-so-secret crush. Little did she know, Nick had already concocted a plan of his own. He convinced a mutual friend to cast them in a speed dating sketch together (see footage from the Congressional archives above). And at some point while pretending to flirt in a fake relationship, they discovered they were actually perfect for a real one. By the time college ended, they were inseparable—just in time to be separated. Young adulthood sent them to different corners of the country. In Los Angeles, Nick split his time evenly between beach volleyball, Super Smash Bros, and medical school. Meanwhile in Austin, Ping quietly questioned her career choices and found solace in brunch and kettlebells. Together, they juggled time zones, Facetime marathons, and trying to hit play at the exact same millisecond on Netflix. In 2017, the long-distance chapter came to a close when Nick started his residency, and the two were reunited in LA to begin their long-awaited life together. They dove into the city's culinary scene (i.e., Jack and Michelle's kitchen) and tested each other’s wit over countless games of Codenames with friends. In 2020, an ill-advised, cross-country move at the height of COVID led them to Boston. Ping’s time in business school there marked another whirlwind chapter—managing to be somehow both the haziest and most vivid period of their lives. While the last 15 years have brought many changes and challenges, they have always faced them together, never forgetting how to make each other laugh along the way. Through it all, Cape Cod has been the backdrop for so many special memories. Since Nick’s parents got a vacation home there in 2010, the Cape (as us locals call it) has been their shared escape—a place for long summer bike rides, grape-nut ice cream, white Christmases, and more than one oyster-related overeating incident. After so many years, Nick and Ping can’t wait to bring everyone they love together in this place that has meant so much to them. Besides, if they put this wedding off any longer, they will both be disowned, which would really throw a wrench in the guest list.
