Dale and Ashley had both been on plenty of terrible dates but their Bumble date at Saint & Second in Long Beach was anything but terrible. While Ashley forced Dale to order the hummus appetizer and Dale experienced the pork chop that he still can't stop raving about, they got to talking. The talking continued over drinks on the rooftop and the rest is history!
Dale made plans to officially ask Ashley to be his girlfriend by making dinner and "proposing" with a ring pop. On the day he was planning to ask her, he found out some bad news... his job was being relocated out of state. When Ashley came over for dinner Dale let her know that he had planned to ask her to be his girlfriend but had some news that might impact whether she wanted to say yes or no. He broke the news that his company was moving and he would have to move with them. Ashley immediately thought it was going to be a move to Texas, where most of Dale's work is, but to her surprise he said the move would be to Portland, OR... which happened to be a city Ashley loved and lived in for grad school. In that moment they decided they wanted to try to make it work, even if that meant living in two cities and flying back and forth every week.
After splitting their time between Long Beach and Portland for almost a year, Dale and Ashley bought a house and made Portland their official new home. They relocated the animals and settled into their new place in the Alberta Arts District. Other than Dale's complaints about the weather they are loving Portland so far!
On a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands, Dale and Ashley were enjoying some sun, beach, and snorkeling at Saint John's Trunk Bay. After spending some time in the water they were sipping on "Lime in the Coconut" drinks and eating goldfish crackers when Dale tapped Ashley on the shoulder. She turned around and he was holding a ring and asking her to marry him. This was a huge surprise because Dale had spent about a year convincing Ashley that he had a five year rule and wouldn't get married until they had been together at least five years. After Ashley said yes they spent the rest of the day celebrating... aka having a few more Lime in the Coconuts :)
