As told by Dan: "We met like most kids...on the kindergarten playground. I was minding my own business on the swings like a good child when a small blonde girl approached me and asked for the swing. I politely responded that she could have it when I was finished, but instead of waiting her turn like a normal person, she proceeded to grab a handful of woodchips and fired them directly at me. With time, I decided to give the woodchip thrower another chance. The rest, as they say, is history. " As told by Hannah: "I have no memory of such an incident. Seems made up to me."
Flashback: It's May 2020, we just graduated from Umich, no one can get a job, and we are living back in our childhood bedrooms. By May 2021, we were in need of an escape. So, along with our great friend Maddy, we booked a month-long AirBNB in Fort Collins, CO. We figured - if we were going to be quarantined and unemployed, why not be near the mountains? By the end of the month, we fell in love with Colorado and signed a lease to stay. Smart decision to move across the country without jobs? No. Are we happy we did it? Absolutely and it could not have worked out better.
Lake Agnes sits just north of Rocky Mountain National Park at 11,000 ft elevation. Having completed the incredibly beautiful hike twice prior, I knew it would be the perfect place to propose. All I needed was a photographer willing to complete the 6 mile snowshoe in the middle of December. Luckily, after extensive searching, I found one. The Day Of: The clock is ticking. With the few moments of alone time I have, I scramble to pack Hannah's favorite sweater, our camping mugs for champagne, and THE RING. Relief. We (of course) are running late. All I can think about is this poor photographer hiking ahead of us waiting in the cold, wondering if we will ever make it. Finally at the trailhead, we strap on our snowshoes and I practically sprint up the mountain. About 3/4 mile from the top, my stomach drops. I see our photographer walking down the mountain towards us... She says, "Hey, do you know if there is another route to the top? The trail just ends up there and the snow gets really deep." There's no way I'm not making it to the top, so from there on, I offer to lead and make our own trail. For the last half mile I am trudging through hip deep snow with our photographer trailing behind us after declaring herself a hobbyist landscape photographer. (Great save) Finally, exhausted, we make it to the lake at the top. We take our time, shed our gear, and I drop down to a knee... Fun fact: Don't be fooled by the sunny pictures. Temperatures were near zero. A now funny story, Hannah had a mild case of frostbite as a result. See our Save the Date "stamp" for a picture of our ice-covered boots. Now, all 10 toes are fully recovered. :)
