The German Wine Route is the oldest wine route worldwide; it runs through the biggest wine growing area in Germany, "Rheinland-Pfalz" (the Palatinate, aka the state where you are staying). The western side is protected by the Palatinate Forest, on the eastern side lies the Rhine rift. There are many excellent wineries offering tastings, cafes and restaurants along the wine road. Head to a specific location or just drive along the road and stop in wherever appeals to you, just be sure to enjoy a Riesling or a Riesling Schorle!
Heidelberg has a baroque charm of narrow streets, picturesque houses and of course the world-famous Schloss (castle ruins). Take some time to stroll through the Altstadt (old city) and enjoy your day!
Speyer is one of the oldest German cities and has a beautiful old town. Speyer has been a diocesan town since 346; its first churches and monasteries were built in the 6th and 7th century. It's a 30-minute drive from the hotel and features a beautiful cathedral ("Dom") and a historic old town. If you are feeling academic you can also visit the Historic Museum of the Palatinate to learn a little bit more about our region, die Pfalz!
A bit further away at 1.5 hrs by car is Trier.
