This is one of our favorite places in San Diego. A beautiful beach and many easy hikes to breathtaking scenery. Free parking along N Torrey Pines Road (fills up fast). Can also park along Carmel Valley Road and Del Mar scenic Pkwy and walk into the park (somewhat far). Short drive from wedding venue.
If this is your first time in SD, we would highly recommend checking out this world class zoo.
Fun neighborhood with LOTS of great places to eat and drink. Wow wow waffles is great for Belgium waffles. Modern Times has a delicious assortment of beer and their coffee is roasted and brewed in house and is amazing. Belching Beaver is another brewer that makes a Peanut Butter Milk Stout that is second to none. 7 Grand is a whiskey bar that makes tasty libations. Lucha Libre serves up a tasty carne asada fries in a funky Mexican wrestling themed atmosphere. Holsem Coffee is raved about in this area, but we have not tried it yet.
One of the best places in SD to watch the sunset, as the name implies. It is a small park overlooking sandstone cliffs along the ocean. Just don't get too close to the edge, nobody wants to have to be rescued.
Our first date location! A nice little brunch spot near UCSD serving French food and tasty coffee. The glider port is also just down the street where you can watch people jump off a cliff (with a glider), or if you are feeling adventurous, you could as well.
So many good restaurants and bars in this area as well. Salt & Straw is our favorite place to grab ice cream in this neighborhood. Lots of unique and delicious flavors. False Idol is a hidden tiki bar inside Craft and Commerce. Be careful, the drinks are delicious, and STRONG. You are also a short walking distance from the San Diego waterfront, Midway Museum, and downtown. Lots of great things in this area for a day trip.
Convoy is the best place in SD to get delicious Asian food. So many good ramen, sushi, bbq, dim sum, and hot pot places. Check yelp to see what meets your fancy. Notable standouts: Dumpling Inn, Tajima Izakaya, and Poki One N Half.
One of Peter's favorite locations for a run, walk, or bicycle ride. Penasquitos canyon is a beautiful nature reserve running East-West with many trails to explore by foot, bicylce, or horse. http://www.nbbikes.com/bikes/ rents Mountain Bikes for a fun day trip. Trails are great for beginner to advanced. About halfway down the trail there is a pretty nice little waterfall.
Fun day trip to do some wine tasting. We recommend doing one of the horseback winery tours.
