Flight

Lynchburg Regional Airport or Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport

Smith Mountain Lake (specifically Mariners Landing) is about 45 minutes from Lynchburg and 55 minutes from Roanoke. So, if you are flying in, either of these are good options. Both airports have rental cars available. I would recommend getting a rental car if you are flying down as SML has a lot of tourist sites to visit nearby and very few transit options. Update: I would suggest Lynchburg. After driving from the lake to Roanoke, that is not an easy drive: mountains, curvy roads with sharp turns, and lots of back roads.

Smith Mountain Lake State Park

The Bride has been coming to SML since very early childhood as a place to go camping Why not enjoy the Lake as she did by camping! Smith Mountain Lake State Park offers tent camping sites, RV camping sites as well as very nice Cabins if you would like a little more civilization to your camping. Another good aspect of staying here is that it is about 3 miles from the ceremony/reception site. Visit their website for more information!

Halesford Harbour Resort

Halesford Harbour is located close to the 'action' at the Lake which is why the Bride and her family stayed at the motel after they stopped camping. This motel and RV park is located about 10 miles from Mariners Landing (wedding location).
