Patrick and Samm met the Monday after Easter 2016 when Samm's best friend, Rolando, was in Denver. Samm had to go to work that Monday, so Rolando hung out with his old college teammate, Patrick. The couple met for the first time at Samm's apartment when Samm came home over lunch to let out Dempsey (who was a young pup). Dempsey met Patrick before Samm did. The meeting of Patrick and Samm assist goes to Heidi Budreau, Samm's boss, who let her employee of less than a month go home for Easter, spend time with Rolando and eventually meet Patrick.

Samm was about 90% positive when they got on the plane to Boston that they would be coming back engaged. Probably about a year prior, Patrick told Samm that he'd propose at a baseball stadium because going to every stadium was their thing. Fenway was a proposal approved stadium. The couple toured Fenway Park on Saturday morning. Samm asked their tour guide if they'd get to go on the Sam Adam's Deck because she wanted a picture on a deck with her name (spelled wrong, but still). The tour guide said it was their second to last stop and at that moment Patrick decided that is where he'd propose. Patrick and Samm continued through the tour, learning about the oldest baseball stadium. Once they got to the deck, Patrick waited for a majority of the group to move on to the next location (not weird for him, he likes to be at the end of tour groups) and asked their tour guide to take a picture of them. After a few photos, Patrick asked the tour guide to take one more and he got down on one knee and asked the question. For the first time in her life, Samm was speechless and Samm was unaware that she never said anything (let alone yes), but Patrick was pretty confident the kiss and hug were a yes. Fun Fact: The proposal happened at about 10:30 AM EST and Samm did not want to bother anyone too early, so she sent out a lot of texts. After calling each set of parents, Rolando called (awake at 7:30 AM PST!) to congratulate the couple!
