Mackinac Island is known for its charming, horse-drawn carriage atmosphere, and its ban on cars is deeply rooted into its culture and history. Luckily, most of the island's bars, dining, shopping, and lodging are steps from the ferry and very walkable. However, taxi service will be necessary to get to the Inn at Stonecliffe (unless you are feeling adventurous and want to bike). Aside from carriages, most people bike. We highly recommend renting one for the morning to explore the beautiful island!
The ferry departs every half hour (from both Mackinac City and St. Ignace). Just make sure you know when the last boat is because if you miss it, you will have to wait until the next day.
Shepler's offers overnight parking. You have the option of valet, on-site, or off-site parking. We always go with the off-site parking since it is cheaper and they have a shuttle running back and forth from the lot to the dock all day.
Although we LOVE them, the reception is adults only!
Transportation will be provided from the ceremony to reception and from the reception to downtown Mackinac at 11pm. The Little Stone Church is about a 10-15 minute walk from the downtown area. For the welcome party, we recommend reserving a taxi at least 2 hours before desired departure time or taking the hourly shuttle from the ferry entrance! It will take about 45 minutes via carriage. And for the adventurous crowd, feel free to bike!
