On the first day of law school, Jake saw Paige and knew his life would never be the same. Both first year law students at Notre Dame, they spent the first week of school stressing over classes and strange terms like "Respondeat Superior," but, little by little, they got to know one another. Paige loved to talk about Michigan, and Jake had an affinity for tie-dye shirts. Despite this, they enjoyed each other's company. Fast forward a few weeks and Notre Dame football is in full swing. The Fighting Irish of South Bend hosted the vaunted New Mexico Lobos at Notre Dame stadium for their home opener. Always the consummate social butterfly, Paige hosted a pre-tailgate soiree at her apartment, and, of course, Jake attended. Though Paige's lovely apartment was impeccably decorated, it was a bit small for the crowd that attended. Shoulders couldn't help but rub against one another. In the corner of the apartment, nestled by a window overlooking a beautiful South Bend vista of parking lots and student housing, rested a lamp. It really tied the room together. Jake stood by this lamp and regaled the party with one of his fantastic stories, his arms and hands gesticulating for effect. Suddenly, as the story reached its crescendo, the party hanging onto every word, a crashing sound cracked through the small apartment. Jake had accidentally hit the lamp with his hand. With no fault of his own, the lamp was smashed, its glass and electric corpse in tatters on the ground. Horrified, Jake promised to pay for repairs. Nevertheless, there was a football game to see, and the day unfolded without further incident (Notre Dame won 66-14 Go Irish) A few months and the beginning of a pandemic later, Paige and Jake started to date. Things got pretty serious and, after a few more years in South Bend and a pitstop in London, they moved to New York City together. Jake proposed on January 20, 2024 in the Egyptian Room at the MET. They now intend to live happily ever after. And yes, if you're wondering, Jake did pay for a new lamp.
