If you're up for the challenge, here it is! 8 miles out-and-back | Difficulty: Strenuous | Total Ascent: 3,500 feet | Time: 6 to 8 hours The trail ends at the Harding Icefield. Although the view from the top is well worth the effort, you need not hike all the way to the top to experience the wonders of this trail. Even a short hike up the trail affords impressive views of the valley floor and Exit Glacier's terminus. Black bears frequent this area. It is recommended to carry bear spray. Bear spray rentals can be found at the Seward Outdoor Store.

Located behind the AVTec building on 2nd Avenue (not the main road) is a super mellow, easy breezy one mile loop trail. Kid, coffee, and wine friendly. This trail winds you around an upper and lower lake and a beautiful waterfall to the south of the first lake. Moose are often spotted through this wilderness, be sure to keep your distance and do not disturb.
Located in Lowell Point, this is your backyard hike. It's 3 miles of rolling hills, in a thick spruce forest, that hug the coast. It's well marked and easy to follow. You might see salmon swimming up Tonsina Creek. It ends just after the 2nd bridge with an incredible view of the bay.
This moderate trail is also called the Primrose trail at the north end. The trail is seven miles one way. It is part of the Iditarod National Historic Trail. Known for gradual climbs through rainforest, stunning glacier views, Box Canyon Creek, and abundant blueberries. Great for hiking, mountain biking, and berry-picking.
Water taxis are a great, inexpensive way to go camping, kayaking, fishing, hiking, or sightseeing in remote areas only accessible by water. Miller's Landing is just a 4 minute walk from Salted Roots Cabins. Contact Miller's Landing for a ride out to Caines Head State Park or ask about some hidden gems to hike. Thumb Cove is a popular destination. Fox Island Spit, is a great place to go kayaking. You can either head north to kayak Humpy Cove or Thumb Cove, or head south through the El Dorado Narrows, going by the sea lion haul-outs and bird rookeries, and kayak around Fox Island.
