Unscripted Hotel

The Unscripted Hotel is a unique hotel in the center of Durham within a 5 minute walk of the wedding venue (and located between The Durham Hotel and the C21 Museum Hotel.) It is a former apartment building converted to a hotel featuring an outdoor pool area with bar on the third floor overlooking the central square in Durham. Anyone can come and enjoy a drink and/or meal around the pool -- wether or not you are staying in the hotel, it is well worth it. The pool area has the funky atmosphere of a cruise ship, or so we think -- often (particularly when the weather is good) with a DJ and music. For that reason, we'd recommend not getting a room facing the pool unless you don't mind a bit of music noise. Other rooms throughout the hotel are more quiet. This is the hotel we will be staying at -- and the hotel that has a block of room held for wedding guests until March 24.

The Durham Hotel

This is one of four hotels located in the heart of Durham and just a 5 minute walk from the wedding venue. It is a unique hotel within a recently renovated bank building that has historical significance in Durham. Within Durham, it is perhaps best known for its rooftop bar that features picturesque 360 degree views of Durham and the surrounding areas. In spring and fall, it is a popular place for Durham residents to come and hang out with friends over some drinks and small plate foods. Even if you do not stay in this hotel, it is well worth the visit while you are here if the weather is nice. The hotel's restaurant is quaint -- the steak is incredible here.

21c Museum Hotel Durham

This recently opened Boutique Hotel that also features an art museum is one of four hotels located in the heart of Durham and within a 5 minute walk of the wedding venue. It is probably the most expensive of the four hotel options -- stylish, modern, artsy. Even before it opened, the building was known in Durham for an old bank vault that anyone can come see in the basement. The vault was simply too hard to remove as the building was renovated -- and now makes an interesting excursion whether you stay in the hotel or not (as do the art exhibits on the second and third floors). The restaurant has unique dishes with unique and wonderful flavor mixtures.

Durham Marriott City Center

The Marriott is the oldest and most conventional of the four hotels located within a 5 minute walk to the wedding venue -- and is closer to the venue (by a minute or two) than the other three hotels (The Durham Hotel, The Unscripted Hotel and the C21 Museum Hotel). If you have stayed in a Marriott, you know what to expect -- a nice hotel, professionally run but not as individually unique as the other three.

Flight

Raleigh Durham International Airport

If you are coming from out of town, you will be flying into Raleigh Durham International Airport, known as RDU, which serves Durham and Raleigh and therefore lies halfway between the two. It is located about a 15 minute drive from the city of Durham. There are direct flights to RDU from 62 different airports, mostly within the US.
