Jack Tar and The Colonel’s Daughter
This is an amazing diner in the same building as the Unscripted Hotel. It is especially known for its donuts (or "crullers") -- no matter what else you get there, you have to get these. Tom does not eat donuts -- except these!
The Patio at Unscripted
Cruiseship-like atmosphere in the patio/pool/bar area on the roof of the Unscripted Hotel. Get a drink, have some food and enjoy the music and view of Durham.
Pizzeria Toro
They are so serious about wood firing pizza that the place burns down occasionally. It's right on the path from the central square in Durham to the Hotel venue (past the Marriott). If the pig ears are on the appetizer menu and you are at all open to the experience, we highly recommend them!
The Durham Hotel Rooftop Bar
Best views of Durham from the rooftop of the Hotel. It is open to anyone, not just hotel guests. Just enter the Durham Hotel, turn left and take the elevator to the top floor. Drinks and appetizers; family friendly.
The Parlour
Ice. Cream. Yum. 'Nough said. (It's right on the central square in Durham, across from the Unscripted Hotel.)
Dashi
Best Japanese Ramen ever! When you come out of the Durham Hotel, turn left and it's on your left two blocks down.
21c Museum
Cool old bank vault in the basement, and art displays on the first three floors of the hotel, all free and open to the public.
Durham Farmers' Market
Saturday mornings, in walking distance from the downtown hotels. From the Durham central square, just head north past the Marriott and you'll run into it in a few blocks.
Nasher Museum of Art
The Nasher is Duke's art museum -- a 5 minute drive from central Durham.
Sarah P. Duke Gardens
Walk the beautiful Duke Gardens -- should be perfectly in bloom in April! A 5 minute drive from central Durham.
Museum of Life and Science
Durham's Museum of Life and Science is a wonderland for kids -- including a trolley, a butterfly house and lots of hands on exhibits. A 5-10 minute drive from central Durham.
Duke University Chapel
Majestic Duke Chapel is located at the heart of Duke's West (main) campus, a 5 minute drive from central Durham. It is usually open unless a private event is taking place.
