Ora Star and Shane could have met each other numerous times in their lives and just barely missed each other for years. They both grew up in the DC suburbs (Ora in Northern Virginia and Shane in Maryland), they both attended Warped Tour in 2002 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA, they both attended Virgin Free Fest in Baltimore, MD in 2007, Shane moved to Boston, MA in summer 2012 just as Ora moved away from Providence, RI and they both eventually ended back home to the DC-metropolitan area. Despite all of these almost-encounters, they finally met each other in January 2020 at Interfusion Festival in Crystal City, VA where they both were volunteering at the event. Ora was checking people's wristbands and Shane was helping his friend sell kombucha and they were both stationed in the same small hallway during the festival. Even with this close of proximity, they still mostly danced at opposite ends of the hallway and danced past each other (as the hallway had unofficially become a dance hallway between Ora blasting reggaeton on her portable speaker and Shane playing new age electronic music on his speaker). Eventually, on the last day of the festival, Shane and Ora took a neck and spinal decompression yoga class at 8 am (after dancing at Interfusion Festival until 3 am, then Ora slept at her yoga studio in order to teach a 6 am yoga class and then came back to the festival for the tail end) and were partners for the class measuring each others necks before and after the class. Shane recognized Ora was special and managed to remember her name enough to add her on social media and the two casually chatted for months before they started dating (and Shane even consoled Ora on videochat shortly after she lost her job due to COVID shutdowns). Shane and Ora continued to talk and like each others posts on social media, but were limited in interactions as COVID was keeping the world apart, but eventually in June 2020 when COVID restrictions in DC started lessening, Ora invited Shane over for a socially distanced BBQ in her backyard. Ora was nervous enough to burn all of the food and out of nowhere, it started sunshowering and Shane and Ora started kissing in the rain and continued the date on her covered front porch watching the rain, cuddling and talking about feelings. Shane and Ora didn't let COVID stop them from going on adventures in nature, copious roadtrips, lots of yoga and other COVID-friendly activities and started seeing each other multiple times a week. After 9 months of dating (and never living together officially), in April 2021, they decided to buy a house together in Washington, DC. By this time, both of them knew that the relationship was worth investing in and they eventually welcomed two rescue puppies into their hearts and home; Basil in October 2021 and Juniper in March 2022. In February 2022, Shane gave Ora a promise ring that he had bought on a family vacation to Australia when he was 8 years old and said he would give it to the love of his life and he made good on his promise by proposing marriage with a ring they both chose together in June 2023. On June 11, 2023, Ora and Shane were having a BBQ at their friends' rooftop pool overlooking the monuments, tidal basin and downtown DC and Shane managed to surprise Ora and everyone else at the party by getting down on one knee with Sade playing in the background. Their friends then celebrated with an impromptu engagement photoshoot, delicious food, good company and generally feeling "love drunk". Ora and Shane have grown together, loved one another fiercely and supported each other through the trials and tribulations of life and are excited for all the adventures their love will bring them in the future!
