Every year, on the First Sunday in December, Troy is host to the Victorian Stroll - a chance to go back and time to the world of The Christmas Carol with authentic carolers, folks in period appropriate costumes, and vendors offering amazing holiday gifts and snacks. If you plan to stay in town for a few days after our big party, swing by the Victorian Stroll in downtown Troy before you leave!
Steve Martin & Martin Short are touring and coming to Albany's Palace Theater on Thursday, December 4th - so if you get into town a day early and want to see some comedy legends in the flesh - get your tickets and head over to the Palace in Albany.
On Thursday, December 4th Jim Gaffigan will be performing a stand up show at the MVP Arena - if you get into town early and would like something to do, you can't go wrong with one of our favorite comics.
A great spot for beers and cocktails with amazing food options but limited Gluten Free choices.
AMAZING Upstate NY BBQ - originally from Rochester, NY, cross the street from our hotel to DinoBBQ and try their custom wing sauce on their on-site smoked meats. With safely prepared gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan meal choices, this is our number one pick for really great food close by. A casual restaurant that also accepts reservations (recommended for weekend dinner times especially).
Check out the schedules for RPI and Union College hockey - they both have games scheduled for Saturday, December 6th - so if you're going to stick around for the weekend, we recommend hitting up one of these great college hockey teams for some entertainment.
A local brewery with amazing burger options and popular for live music on the weekends - we do NOT recommend this place for guaranteed gluten free eats, but it does have a great burger if that's what you're looking for - and make sure to grab a growler of one of their in-season brews to enjoy back in your hotel room or bring home with you!
If you have a vehicle at your disposal, one of our absolute favorite Upstate places to eat is Druthers. With locations in Albany and Schenectady - the menu varies with each season and is another local brewery with their own brews for each season. Katie loves their sours -- but both of us never leave Druthers without ordering their pretzel bites and beer cheese dip. You won't regret it!
Golf simulators, arcade games, candlestick bowling, regular bowling, laser tag, escape rooms, and a full bar - if you are interested in blowing off steam with a large group, heading over to Crossgates Mall and Apex Entertainment is what we recommend. Crossgates also has an 18-screen movie theater (Regal) if you've been looking for an excuse to catch a matinee.
