The proposal spot, and one of our favorite places going on six years now. While we're a *little* biased, this place definitely has some of the best beer and views in the city. Check out their music-themed brews and on-site food truck (Lil' Toasty's), and scope out a spot on their top patio to view Louisville in all its glory. Our favorite beers include: The Cardinale, Doc's Hefe & Doc's Dunkel & we would be remiss if we didn't shout out La Bamba, a Mexican Lager.
The place where it all started! Stop by for a warm, comfy atmosphere and a good 'wich.
One of our FAVORITE coffee shops, and also the winner of the best chocolate chip cookie in the city! We love their Frankfort Ave. location, but they also have stops in Nulu and on River Rd. Stop by for a wide selection of lattes, teas, baked goods, and loud music (we are pretty partial to the Honey Boy and Ganache lattes ourselves).
So...The Grales. It's a brunch place, a BnB, and one of the best beer bars you'll ever visit, plus a connecting biergarten to knock your socks off! Stop by Gralehaus for brunch until 2 or stay in one of their comfy rooms overlooking the biergarten. Pivot to Holy Grale for beer, cocktails, frites, German food, and overall amazing ambience. The Grales holds a special place in our hearts for its hideaway-like atmosphere and its incredible list of beers. We had our last date before COVID-19 here (on Valentine's Day). As the pandemic went on, Holy Grale was one of the few places that offered takeaway bundles of curated beers from across the country. It was a great way for us to support local, keep our hobby of beer exploration going and to enjoy a delicious meal out while staying in.
If you need some properly roasted coffee beans or some tasty lattes, this Sunergo's is located right across from Sam's old stomping grounds of Highland Middle School. Pop in for a peaceful cup o' joe or purchase one of their 5 lb bags of beans if you're into a caffeine high!
Our favorite indie bookstore! They have an amazing selection of bestsellers, local authors, puzzles, mugs, knick-knacks, and some of the best recommendations around.
One of our favorite restaurants, also located on Frankfort Ave in the Clifton neighborhood of Louisville. A great selection of authentic Irish food, a great tap list, and some of the best atmosphere in the city. If you're lucky enough to meet Michael, the owner, you're in for some old-fashioned Irish kindness! We have frequented The Irish Rover for a long time but some of the standout memories include having some of our first Irish Whiskey courtesy of Carl, father of the groom; spending time with family as Lisa & Dan (mother & stepfather to the groom) got married in the event space above The Irish Rover; watching World Cup matches early in the morning back in 2018 and 2022; and, lastly, countless dinners with friends and family over the years for the best Fish n' Chips this side of the Atlantic.
If we had to pick a favorite brewery outside of Gravely, Shippingport would be our go-to. We can honestly say that these are some of the best beers we've ever had, not to mention that they have great sandwiches too! Stop by and you just might meet the amazing owner, Amelia! We had our second Oktoberfest celebration at Shippingport where Meghan nearly claimed victory in the Stein holding contest! Shippingport feels like the local pub you visit on the way home every day. It is family, just with slightly fresher and much better beer.
There are several amazing parks around the city that provide peace, shade, and trails. Our personal favorite is Seneca Park (located off Cannons Ln. near the Crescent Hill neighborhood), but we also love Cherokee Park (near the Highlands and Bardstown Rd.) and Iroquois Park for its *challenging* running trails!
