Flight
Split is the closest major airport to Vis and the most convenient gateway to the island. From the airport, take a bus or taxi to the ferry terminal (or arrive early and spend some time in the largest city on the Croatian coast, built around the summer palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian).
Travel Note
From Split’s city harbor, you can catch either a fast catamaran or a larger car ferry to the town of Vis. The journey typically takes between 1–2.5 hours depending on the type of boat. Ferries run several times a day during the summer season, but we recommend checking schedules in advance and allowing a little buffer time between your flight arrival and ferry departure. Once you’re on board, enjoy the views—this is one of the most beautiful stretches of the Adriatic. When you arrive in Vis town, everything on the island is a quick walk or taxi ride away. It’s a relaxed, easy journey, perfect for kicking off your time in Croatia!
Hotel
Vis Town is small, but accommodations are plentiful! We recommend checking out Airbnb and boutique rentals to find something that suits your preferences. We would recommend staying in or around Vis Town and not Komiža (the town on the other side of the island) to avoid too much back-and-forth travel.
Rental Car
Although the choice is yours, we recommend saving some stress and forgoing a rental car. The island is small and there are plenty of ways to get around!
