When going into one of the private gated communities they simply need to show they have a scheduled ride to obtain access through the security gate. All drivers will be familiar with the process and you don't need to obtain a gate pass on your own when riding in or being picked up.
Sea Pines is a gated community and each vehicle needs to have a pass. For the Welcome Party you need to be in the right hand lane and tell the attendant you are going to the Quarterdeck for the Moersen/Abernathy dinner. If you are renting in Sea Pines your rental company or host will let you know how you are to obtain a pass. Sea Pines sells gate passes for $10/daily in the right hand lane only. If you are in an Uber or Lyft - the driver will simply show the gate attendant their confirmed ride information.
