His Perspective: It was a warm Miami winter night, and I had just finished work. Little did I know, I was about to pick up my future wife from her apartment in Coral Gables. Nora was wearing a bright orange top and looked stunning. The date was excellent; Nora was so easy to talk to. I felt like we were in sync the entire date, and it was a pleasure to get to know her. Over the course of the date, I could tell I liked her, so I started asking harder questions. No time like the present, am I right? As we walked out of the restaurant, I was nervous because, in my head, the date went great, and I hoped she felt the same. Maybe, if she let me, I’d cook for her on our next date? Her Perspective: Josh picked me up for our first date. He was the only man to ever do this, and I was immediately intrigued by his old-fashioned ways. We went to a cool, local gastro bar with the promise of live music. When we arrived, there was a parking spot on the street, directly in front of the restaurant – a prime spot, but required parallel parking skills – for me, an excellent test, will he survive in NYC? Josh parked perfectly and opened both the car and the restaurant doors for me. Dinner was lovely, the live music never started, but the conversation was more than enough entertainment. On the way home, Josh nervously asked if he could pull over for a moment. I was a little confused by the request but said, “ok.” We had a perfect first kiss in his Rav-4 on the side of the road, and the rest was history!
His Perspective: I knew I wanted to get engaged to Nora for a while and was waiting for the perfect opportunity. After securing Mimi’s approval the prior summer, I started planning. I finally selected to propose on the North Fork (NoFo) because her family (led by Grandma Mildred) has spent the last 50 years visiting/living in Cutchogue, NY. I know the North Fork will always be a special place for us and somewhere we’ll always return to. Over the past couple of summers, Nora passed the bar exam here and we’ve created such beautiful memories at “Camp Cutchogue.” Fast forward to the engagement, I had a hard time keeping the surprise. The day started out strong. An easy (only for Nora) 10-mile bike ride to breakfast in town. I was playing it cool and reminded her that later in the day, we had a reservation at a winery, followed by dinner. As we approached the winery, I was nervous but holding it together, knowing my slim-fit ring box was undetectable in my pocket. The wine tour was super fun until we started the outdoor portion. As the legend goes, my palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms heavy…nervous, but on the surface, looking calm and ready. Kneeling on one knee and hearing Nora answer “Yes!” was an amazing way to start the rest of our life together. Her Perspective: We had just finished a 10-mile bike ride, and I was very excited to go have a nice glass of wine on the vineyard patio with some cheese. Why were we going on a wine tour? Seems unnecessary…VIP status….suspicious…Josh asking 1,000,000 detailed, science questions about the wine-making process…normal. The tour was starting to come to a close, and I was very excited to sit down and enjoy the view when we began walking through the vines. We came to a grassy clearing, Josh took both my hands and began telling me all the reasons he loved me *cue immediate waterworks* he knelt down, popped the question, and I was flooded with excitement to spend the rest of my life with this man.
