Travel Tips

Getting Around Verona

TAXIS AND TRANSFERS

Uber is NOT a commonly used app in Italy, however, it is still technically available in Verona. It is primarily used to book Uber Black, which is similar to a private transfer service. Verona is a very walkable city and if you are able, and if weather permits, we highly reccommend exploring the city on foot. For car transfers within and around the city, check with your hotel or accomodations as they may have a shuttle or car service you can utilize. If you need to book a taxi or private car service, there are several taxi apps (FreeNow, ItTaxi) that can be used to request a taxi.

RENTAL CARS

***If you choose to rent a car, it is recommended to acquire an International Drivers Permit (IDP)*** This permit serves as an official translation of your U.S. driver's license, which is required by some rental car agencies. https://www.expedia.com/Car-Rentals-In-Verona.d6046582.Car-Rental-Guide

DRIVING RULES/ PARKING

Verona has "no-drive zones" called ZTLs in its historic city center (primarily around and north of the arena), which restrict access to most vehicles 24/7 unless you have a specific permit. Communicate with your hotel or accomodation regarding approved parking areas. Some hotels can register guest's rental vehicles for access to ZTL zones. **Apple/Google Maps will NOT tell you when you are in these zones, you must look out for the marked sign which is indicated by a red circle and the words "Zona Traffico Limitato"** (pictured above)

Airports and Flight Options

-

Note that while is is possible to fly into Verona, you may find it more affordable to fly into Milan or Venice, and travel from the airport to Verona by train. The Velerio Catullo Airport (VRN) is located approximately 20 minutes from the city center of Verona. The 199 Airlink Shuttle Bus runs every 20 minutes and transfers to Verona Porta Nuova train station in the city center. Tickets can be purchased upon arrival to the airport, or on board the shuttle.

Train Station

PORTA NUOVA VERONA TRAIN STATION

This train station is the closest station to the center of Verona. If you choose to take the train into the city from the airport, or will be leaving to explore other places following the wedding, this station will be where you travel to and from. It is a busier part of town and a bit further walking distance from Verona's most famous sites, so we recommend staying a little north of this area. **Apps for Train Schedules and Ticket Purchase** Trenitalia Italo

Communication

PHONE SERVICE/ INTERNET

We highly recommend adding an international phone plan to your cell phone service during your time abroad. WIFI is usually available at most hotels and Airbnbs, but can be limited at other places (including the Welcome Party restaurant and Wedding Day venue). **Download WhatsApp prior to your trip. Most restaurants, taxi services, hotel concierge, and Airbnb hosts use this app to communicate with international visitors**
