The Story

11/25/2022

God deserves the honor for this story; in His providence, Nisu was friends with Lily's parents, Doug and Fran through his church (The Grove Tampa). They invited him over for Thanksgiving where Nisu and Lily met. Nisu was immediately drawn to Lily's godliness. She lived under the authority of God's Word. That weekend, Nisu asked Doug and Fran if he could go on a date with Lily, and they said "yes". Three weeks later, Nisu and Lily went on their first date at a coffee shop in South Tampa. They were intentional from the beginning: asking difficult questions, seeking wisdom from older godly couples, praying, and studying the Bible. What was most important to Nisu and Lily was to marry someone who was fully submitted to Jesus as Lord. In fact, their most common request to the Father was to end the relationship if He would not be glorified. However, it seemed like every month, God would give more reasons for Nisu and Lily to continue towards marriage.

The Proposal

After almost a year of prayer, seeking wisdom, and deliberation, Nisu and Lily mutually decided to move forward to marriage. Nisu organized a surprise picnic at Lily's favorite park. He shared how he had been praying for his future wife, and God had answered his prayers in Lily. After Lily said "yes", they went to brunch together to celebrate. Lily was curious why no one from our families had reached out to congratulate us. What she did not know is that many of our friends and family were gathered at her parent's house to celebrate with us! Again, the grace of God has been evident in the relationship since the first day. God saved Nisu and Lily from their life of sin by sending His Son to die on the cross (Rom 5:8-10). God who worked in Nisu and Lily's heart to trust in the works of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. God transformed Nisu and Lily so that they would be more like Christ (Rom 8:28-30). And it will be by God's grace that their marriage covenant will bring Him glory.
