We first met at a work offsite in August 2012, and while we had a reasonably fun time hanging out that weekend with each other's friends, neither of us left the encounter thinking that we'd end up being close friends, let alone tying the knot. And our subsequent encounters (either through soccer, common friends, or awkward car rides with birthday non-invites) over the next couple of months didn't change that impression either. However, things took a turn at a common friends' birthday party - we stayed up the entire night talking (really, talking) about a million random topics, and that slowly changed our equation. In stereotypical high school fashion we started communicating over text/IM before graduating to talking on the phone for hours. From casual acquaintances, we moved to being close friends. The friendship slowly evolved to something deeper, but it needed Sid traveling to the literal edge of the world in Antarctica for us to realize that we had moved beyond just friends. And since then, we haven't looked back.
Every year, along with a few friends we would go to Sid's home in Mukteshwar, a small town in the hills, to escape Delhi for a weekend. On one of these trips, Nishtha introduced Sid to the world of strategy board games through Clue (Cluedo as it's known in India), one of her favorite childhood games. At Booth, they moved beyond Clue, and graduated to more complex games. However, Sid went back to Clue to come up with a proposal that he hoped Nishtha wouldn't be able to predict. During one of our board game nights, he slyly replaced the answer cards in the game with duplicate proposal cards and ensured that Nishtha won and picked them. As the original True Detective, Nish was so surprised (and thrilled) that before saying "Yes", she spent the next two mins trying to piece together clues from the evening that should have given the secret proposal away!
