House Or Rental
Airbnb has transformed short-term lodging in NYC for anyone looking to travel on a budget. Due to city laws, short term rentals of less than 30 days require a permanent tenant to reside in the apartment at the same as an Airbnb renter so be advised that room rentals are more common in NYC than entire-apartment listings.
Flight
We recommend flying into La Guardia airport. A car ride from LGA to Williamsburg takes approximately 25 minutes. The next nearest airport is JFK. A car from JFK to Williamsburg takes approximately 45 minutes, traffic depending. Please note for return trips, there is a lot of construction occurring around La Guardia. Allow at least an extra half-hour of travel time.
Flight
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is considered a New York-area airport but it is not easy to get from there to the outer boroughs. Allow at least one hour for a cab ride costing $80+ or two hours for train travel to Penn Station via NJ Transit rail, then subway to your NYC destination.
Rental Car
We strongly advise you not to rent a car. Transportation options in New York are abundant, parking spaces are nearly non-existent, and parking ticketing is extremely aggressive. An Uber/Lyft from Laguardia Airport to The Hoxton hotel is approximately $28. There is a specially designated area outside the airport for meeting your Uber. Posted signs will direct you to it. If taking a Taxi, follow signs in the airport to the taxi stand. When taking a cab from the airport, do not accept rides from anyone other than the official NYC Taxi dispatcher.
Rental Car
Ride-hailing apps have changed surface travel in New York City. Drivers are equally split among Uber, Lyft, and other apps like Juno. It makes it easy to hail a ride and be sure the driver knows your exact destination. All ride-app drivers in NYC are registered with the Taxi & Limousine Commission. To avoid potential scammers, verify that the driver's plate matches the plate listed in the app before getting in a car, especially hailing from an airport.
Rental Car
Cab travel in the outer boroughs is in heavy competition with ride-hail apps but there tends to be a good number of taxicabs in Williamsburg on weekends. Green cabs are the official "borough taxis" of Brooklyn/Queens, but yellow cabs will also respond to hails. A cab with an illuminated roof light is looking for a fare, if the roof light is dark they already have a passenger. NYC taxis are required to accept credit card payments if asked, and if the driver asks your destination before you get in the car you are under no obligation to answer.
