The 6th Street Entertainment District is made up of the section of 6th Street that is known historically as Pecan Street and by college kids as “Dirty Sixth”. At night, the bars open their doors and on weekend nights the street is blocked off to cars. High heels, cheap drinks and loud music flood the streets. It’s the perfect destination for a 21st birthday or Bachelor(ette) Party.
East Austin is a growing favorite for the young and hip who are looking for a more alternative vibe. Walk down this area east of Highway 35 on Sixth Street to experience food trucks and a variety of casual and quirky bars, graffiti-style murals and alternatives for dancing, dining and coffee.
Just to the west of Congress Avenue, the Austin Warehouse District is bustling with the trendy bars and upscale restaurants and steakhouses. The neighborhood only takes up a few blocks, extending just three blocks west to Guadalupe Street, between 3rd and 7th Streets.
The Rainey Street District, tucked away just outside of Austin’s downtown core, has come to life over the past 10 years. Previously a residential neighborhood, most of the houses have been converted to hip bars and trendy restaurants. Rainey Street is known for it’s “Sunday Funday” vibes, the bars are packed long before the sun goes down, with young professionals sipping local beers and playing yard-games galore with their dogs in tow.
Esther's Follies is a modern-day vaudeville theatre located on 6th Street in downtown Austin, Texas. The group is named after actress Esther Williams. Acts incorporate magic, juggling, singing, dancing, and sketches on current events. The show is fast-paced, and most of the acts incorporate a comedic theme.
