We hope you are as excited as we are about the upcoming wedding! We wanted to inform you about a recent situation in Calgary that may affect our plans and your stay. The city is currently experiencing a major water main break and has declared a state of emergency. As a result, there are some necessary measures to reduce water usage throughout the city. Here are a few important points to keep in mind during your visit: Water conservation: Please be mindful of your water use. Limit showers to five minutes, avoid baths, and turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. Drinking Water: We recommend using bottled water for drinking. The city is ensuring that potable water remains safe, but conserving where we can will help the overall situation. Restaurants and Services: Some restaurants and services might be operating with limited water usage. Please be patient and understanding with local businesses. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. We look forward to celebrating with you!
Travel Note
It is funny to think of Nicole's hometown as a destination vacation, but we are aware that many of our guests have never visited Calgary, especially during Stampede! As such, we have endeavoured to provide you with as many travel tips as possible. The city is divided into four quadrants (NE, SE, NW, and SW). Be sure to note these details in the addresses, because street names can repeat but be over a 1-hour drive from each other! Google Maps will sometimes get these quadrants confused (e.g. if you need to take Shawnessy Drive heading North - Google Maps may say "Take the second exit onto Shawnessy Drive North South East") In Calgary, the highways are called "trails", major roads include "Deerfoot Trail" and "Macleod Trail."
Flight
For those travelling by air, the closest airport is YYC, the Calgary International Airport. The airport is located on the edge of the city in the North East. There is minimal public transit from the airport, the 300 bus route will connect you to downtown/the C-trains. You may prefer the convenience of taxis, the efficiency of car rentals, or coordinating a pick-up with a friend. Multiple studies show that flight prices are: - Above average when booking more than 60 days out - Cheapest 60-30 days out** - Most expensive less than 30 days out This timeline moves earlier by a couple of weeks when travelling for holidays, concerts, or other larger events (like the Stampede). **Based on this we encourage our guests to book their flights by the end of May. There are many hotels located close to the airport. Many of these may be cheaper than those listed below, but not all hotels are accessible by public transit. Additionally, they do not have room block availability and you will need to reserve a room via their standard room rate.
