There are many ways to get to Florence and places to stay. Room blocks and other hotel recommendations to be added. Here are our best recommendations and tips for smooth travel:

Flight

Amerigo Vespucci Airport- Florence

Florence airport is the smaller airport that serves the city, but is the most convenient for central Florence. There are no direct flights from the US, but there are 5-7 a day from Amsterdam. From the airport you can take a bus or tram into the city center.

Flight

Pisa International Airport

Pisa International is the larger airport that serves Florence. To get from the airport to Florence City Center take a shuttle to the train station. The airport of Pisa and Pisa Centrale, the city main train station, are connected by the PisaMover, a high-speed shuttle service that runs every day from 6 a.m. to midnight, every 5/8 minutes. The average travel time between the airport and the station is about 5 minutes. Once in Pisa Centrale, just hop on a train to Florence: there is an average of one train every hour, with a travel time ranging from 50 minutes, for the fastest options, to 1 hour and 20 minutes. Tickets (also combined with the PisaMover fare) can be purchased online (Trenitalia) or at any train ticket office (there is one also inside the airport). Tickets for PisaMover can also be purchased from the automatic machines at the departure points. You can also take a taxi for approximately $170.

Flight

Bologna Airport

Bologna Airport is a popular arrival hub. To get from Bologna Airport to Florence by train you will first need to get to Bologna Central Station. As in Florence, there is a shuttle bus, called Navetta BLQ Aerobus. It leaves every 11 minutes and costs approximately $6. From Bologna Railway Station there are regular direct trains to Florence. The direct FrecciaRossa service takes 40 minutes and costs 17,90 Euro. You can buy tickets and see timetables on Trenitalia.

Train

Firenze Santa Maria Novella

This is the main train station in Florence and where you will arrive if you take a train from Pisa or Bologna airports or any other destinations you may travel from before the wedding. The station is only a few blocks from Florence's Duomo cathedral and the historic city center.

Travel Note

Tips

Always remember to stamp your ticket before travel on public transit– this is true for buses and for trains! Cash is more common than card in Italy. Make sure to bring Euros.
