Surrounded by canals and lagoons, Palmetto Dunes is truly resort living at its finest. For those staying on the resort, you'll enjoy beach access, a nearby general store, restaurants, 3 golf courses, tennis courts and miles of biking trails. Please keep in mind that a day pass is required to access the resort (for those not staying in a Palmetto Dunes rental or at the Omni) and more details can be found on the Q+A page.
Known for its lighthouse, massive Liberty Oak, marina and iconic views of the Harbour Town Golf Links where the RBC Heritage is held annually, Harbour Town is the bread and butter of Hilton Head and has shopping, restaurants and access to water / charter sports (fishing, boat rentals, kayaks, jet skis). Please note: A daily pass is required to enter Sea Pines and can be purchased at the entry gate for less than $10.
South Beach Marina on Braddock Cove is designed like a New England fishing village with its close proximity to Calibogue Sound. Here you'll find the famous Salty Dog Cafe and t-shirt factory, shops, restaurants and marina access to sightseeing tours, fishing charters and rentals for boats, jet skis and kayaks to explore the nearby marshes and wildlife. You’ll also need a Sea Pines daily or weekly pass to access this part of the island.
Directly across from Palmetto Dunes is Shelter Cove Marina, which has recently been renovated and outfitted with more upscale shops and restaurants, and the largest grocery store on the island. Tucked away on the middle section of HHI near the intracoastal waterway system, jump on a dolphin sightseeing cruise or rent a boat to do some exploring.
With public beach access at Coligny Beach Park, you can walk across the street to Coligny Plaza for more shops, restaurants and entertainment. Make sure you stop for a slice at New York City Pizza to get the true Galonczyk family vacation experience!
Dating back to the late 18th century / early 19th century when Revolutionary War Captain Jack Stoney built the Baynard Plantation of timber and a mixture of oyster shells, lime and sand, overlooking Calibogue Sound. The Baynard family then acquired the home in 1837 through either a bet made during a late-night poker game, or via bankruptcy that enabled William Baynard to acquire the estate from the bank until he passed away. The plantation was raided by Union forces and housed many soldiers during the Civil War. It was burned to the ground after the war ended and is now part of the Sea Pines Resort.
In between the mainland and Hilton Head, this 4,000+ acre refuge includes Pinckney Island, Corn Island, Big and Little Harry Islands, Buzzard Island and numerous small hammocks. Pinckney Island is the largest of these islands and the only one open to public use. Come for the diversity of the wildlife and land - salt marshes, tidal creeks, freshwater ponds, forestland, white-tailed deer, American alligators, raptors, herons and egrets.
Best white sand, semi-private spot on the island! Take a long walk on the “heel” of the island at this public beach or enjoy the basketball and tennis courts, and cute dog park. During this time of year, Hilton Head allows dogs on beaches at all times of the day, and this is one of YP’s favorite spots for good reason.
Peaceful, serene and lush. Grab your bikes or lace up your tennis shoes and hit the trails at the Sea Pines Resort Forest Preserve! You’ll find the 4,000-year-old Sea Pines Shell Ring (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), Warner W. Plahs Wildflower Field, swamps, alligators, marshes, freshwater ponds, secluded forests and more spots for a picnic than you’d know what to do with.
Featuring a collection of par threes ranked amongst the world's finest and a par-4 18th hole considered one of the most feared in all of golf, Harbour Town Golf Links is the crowning achievement of famed designer Pete Dye and design consultant Jack Nicklaus. A perennial favorite among PGA Tour players as it places a premium on finesse, imagination and shot making, rather than strength.
Located on the Atlantic Ocean, the shifting winds make every hole play differently on the Jones course - providing both challenges and rewards for players of every skill level. And, the panoramic views of the ocean from the elevated green of the par- 5 10th hole make playing the Jones course one of the most memorable rounds of golf on Hilton Head.
DO NOT MISS! Get your reservations booked early for the best dining on the island as part of the Sea Pines Beach Club (yes, a daily Sea Pines pass is required). The cocktails and entrees are heavenly, but more sublime is sitting right alongside the beach overlooking the waves crashing while enjoying your meal.
The Crazy Crab has 2 locations on the island, but don’t even waste your time visiting the location in Harbour Town because this one is hands down the best. Next to Jarvis Creek with amazing views all around and a massive wrap-around porch. Get the chowder!
