FAQs

Question

IS CDMX SAFE?

Answer

Like any major city, Mexico City has safer and less safe areas. The neighborhoods that you will be frequenting (Juarez, Condesa, Roma, Polanco, Coyoacán) are considered to be very safe. You should feel safe walking around during the day. Beyond that, take the same precautions you would take in any other large city.

Question

WILL THERE BE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM WEDDING EVENTS?

Answer

Yes- transportation will be provided for all wedding-related events, with pick-up and drop-off from the JW Marriott. A detailed schedule with exact times will be shared closer to the wedding date.

Question

HOW SHOULD I GET AROUND THE CITY?

Answer

Uber is highly recommended in Mexico City for convenience and safety. It’s typically ~$5- $10 to get most places in the city with Uber. Be prepared for heavy traffic when considering travel times (as a general rule of thumb, add about 10-15 minutes to the ETA on your Uber app).

Question

CAN I DRINK THE WATER?

Answer

No, even locals only drink bottled water. All water and ice served to you at our wedding events and at restaurants will be from bottled water. Be careful eating street food.

Question

CAN I EAT THE STREET FOOD IN MEXICO CITY?

Answer

Mexico City has incredible food! For this trip, we suggest guests enjoy meals at restaurants and cafés rather than street food.

Question

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT THE ALTITUDE?

Answer

CDMX’s elevation is ~7,350 feet high; higher than Deer Valley and just below Aspen’s altitude. Some guests may feel a bit tired or short of breath at first—stay hydrated, take it easy on day one, and avoid overexertion or too many margaritas too soon!

Question

HOW MUCH SHOULD I TIP?

Answer

Generally, you should tip about 10% at a restaurant. This is often added to the bill by the restaurant itself (look for the propina charge). On drinks, it’s typical to tip about 15% on the bill, or about 20 pesos per drink.

Question

DO I NEED A PASSPORT OR VISA?

Answer

Everyone coming from the States will need to have a valid passport, but you don't need a Visa. Please double check that your passport won't expire within 6 months of your trip.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN APRIL IN MEXICO CITY?

Question
