Train
For our American guests who are unfamiliar, you might consider using public transportation to get to our venue - The London Underground, called "the tube", has a stop on the Northern Line at Finchley Central, which will be only a 10 minute / 0.5 mile walk from our venue. Might not be the best choice in stilettos, but it will be the most economical way to get there! See this webpage from our venue for their tips on how to travel there: https://www.stephenshouseandgardens.com/visit/planning-your-visit/how-to-get-here
Flight
Both the Heathrow and Gatwick London airports require a journey to get into Central London. If you come in to Heathrow, your best bet is to take the Elizabeth line on the Underground which will go into Central London. If you come in to Gatwick, you should take the Thameslink Overground train to come into Central London, likely through St. Pancras Station. The journey from Heathrow might be a bit shorter, but the airports and journey from the airport are comparable, and we recommend prioritising cost and convenience for flights over which airport. If taking public transport is a bit intimidating, taxis and ride shares are also an option, but might run up to £100. The trains from Heathrow or Gatwick are both around £13 per person.
Rental Car
For our American guests - renting a car is an option, but we don't strongly recommend it. Firstly, you'll be driving on the wrong side of the road, which is pretty confusing. Secondly, you would have to avoid entering Central London or have to pay fees (congestion charges). Thirdly, traffic can be kind of crazy around London. It's better to rely on Ubers, taxis, or be brave and try out London's amazing public transportation system! Google Maps is an incredible tool to help you take advantage of the trains and buses that will take you anywhere you need to go around London.
Hotel
The venue is in North Finchley, London. Staying nearby in the North London area is advisable, but you can reach our venue from anywhere in London by the Underground or by taxi. We recommend using Google Maps to test out how far away a hotel is from our venue - it's called Stephens House & Gardens in North Finchley. You can type this in as the destination and see what the directions say from your selected hotel. We recommend sticking to the North London area. Neighbourhoods you may use as keywords include Finchley, Highgate, Hampstead, Muswell Hill, and Crouch End. If you were interested in staying closer to Central London but still want to be on the north side of town, consider Regent's Park, St. John's Wood, Camden Town and Kentish Town.
