In 2018, Melody and Justin met at the SkillsUSA National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. They were both State Officers, representing Arkansas and Kentucky. It was during a delegate session where the State Officers from all over the United States were seated by district. And that day, the Arkansas and Kentucky tables happened to be side by side. Melody asked one of her friends to “trade her seats,” because Justin caught her eye, with two people between them. She didn’t find out until later in their relationship that Justin had ALSO asked one of his teammates to trade him seats as well, so that he would be sitting next to Melody for the duration of the presentation. A silent game of hangman ensued between them during the meeting, marking the beginning of a long friendship that lasted until they both had graduated high school. After graduation, Melody and Justin began driving 3-5 hours each way to see each other, determined to make it work until they officially moved in together with their dog, Oakley, in 2021. On July 1st of 2022, Justin was celebrating his birthday and blew out the candles on his cake. That was when he got down on one knee and announced that his birthday wish was to spend the rest of their lives together, and proposed. In case you were wondering, Melody said yes.
