Our Story

Est. 2017

We met as students at Wayne State University in 2017. For our first date, we went out for sushi and then visited the Detroit Institute of Arts. Kory was so nervous that he only managed to eat two pieces of sushi—a far cry from his usual three rolls now! As we talked about everything from childhood memories to favorite foods, it all felt new and exciting, yet also easy and comfortable—like we’d known each other forever. At the DIA, Nayema helped ease the nerves by taking Kory’s hand first. We ended the night watching a scary movie together—for the first and last time! Nayema wanted to seem cool and didn’t admit (until later) that she actually doesn’t like scary movies. Since that day, the dates kept coming—and so did the love. But more than that, we became best friends. Coming from different cultures and backgrounds, we’ve faced our fair share of challenges and tribulations. But through it all, we’ve chosen each other—every time—and remained one another’s biggest cheerleaders. As our friends often say, we move as a unit. Where one of us goes, the other is close behind. Because really, why wouldn’t you want to spend all your time with your best friend and the love of your life? In 2019, we interned together at Ally, where we both now work—and yes, we still get to have lunch together every day. From traveling to new places to being locked down in Detroit and Birmingham during COVID, we've built a life full of shared adventures. We've graduated together, raised two dogs, adopted a cat, moved apartments, bought a home, earned promotions, and grown together in every sense. We can’t wait to keep building this life side by side—and we’re so excited to celebrate this next chapter with you!
