We met in high school in Houston, Texas, through…Future Farmers of America (FFA). When Nhi moved to Houston from Viet Nam in 2009, she wanted to immerse in the Texas experience, hence, joining FFA. Nathan wanted to be a zoologist since forever, so joining FFA and raising a goat in his backyard seemed natural. Spoiler alert: neither of us became a farmer. Our first conversation was sparked by Houdini, Nathan’s goat, who acted more like a puppy than a goat.

In April 2012, Nhi asked Nathan to go to Prom, just as friends. Something just sparked between us during Prom and within a week, we were dating. We’ve been partners in love and life ever since! Through ups and downs, a 5-year-long-distance-relationship (Nhi went to college in Indiana and Nathan in Texas), the big move to Washington D.C.- ending our long distance, family gatherings in Viet Nam, the U.S. (Texas and Maryland), and Brazil, job searches, and a global pandemic (during which we shared a studio apartment in Baltimore) – we found our person. In September 2021, we took a walk through the Cylburn arboretum, Baltimore’s hidden gem and our staycation getaway, and Nathan proposed. Two months later, in November 2021, we came back to the arboretum with our families to celebrate our “petite wedding” and "Ăn hỏi”. In Vietnam, before the actual wedding celebration occurs, the families of the bride and groom come together to celebrate "Ăn hỏi” - the ceremony in which the groom officially asks for the bride's hand in marriage. This ceremony is significant in Vietnamese culture as it is an official celebration of the union of the two families, marking the day when the bride and groom can officially call their in-laws “mom” and “dad.” In April 2022, we will exchange our vows and rings, and officially become husband and wife!
