The baraat is a dance parade that leads the groom to the alter (aka the mandap) right before the ceremony! It's pretty much the groom "walking down the aisle" (a very long aisle!). Sameer will be on a horse and there will be music (a drummer) so everyone walking with him should be dancing along! Usually this is a procession with the groom's family and friends but all are invited to go along! The bride and bridesmaids will be behind the scenes waiting until he gets to the mandap so she can do her walk down the aisle.
For the early afternoon Baraat/Ceremony: Women: * Lightly beaded Indian attire* * Cocktail dress Men: * Light suit (or whatever you would wear to a church ceremony) For the evening Reception: Women: * More heavily beaded Indian attire* * Evening gown Men: * Tux (if you have one) * Nicer black suit *Indian attire is not necessary, but if you want to wear it I recommend wearing it to the Baraat/Ceremony in the afternoon. Most of Sameer’s immediate family is changing into American wear for the evening ceremony. ** We know Indian attire can be pricy; if you DO want to wear it here are some places we recommended: -for RENTAL’s: * https://www.mumumandarin.com/ - to BUY: * If you live nearby, we recommend going to shop in Edison, NJ * For second-hand Pakistani party-wear (it’s nice!): https://www.dcxasra.com
