Along with the Golden Dome and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the Grotto completes the Trifecta of famous Notre Dame locations. This shrine is one-seventh the size of the famed French shrine where the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette on 18 occasions in 1858, and has been a holy place of prayer for Notre Dame students and visitors alike since it was built in 1896. Come here to light a candle for your intentions or take in the beautiful natural stonework and abundant flowers.
Morgan and Nick sang at mass with the Folk Choir every Sunday during their time at Notre Dame, and it’s the place where Nick proposed to Morgan. Whether you’re religious or not, everyone will enjoy the beautiful architecture, French stained glass, and the impressive organ (recently installed).
Topping Main Building on ND’s campus is the iconic “golden dome”, which is presided over by a 19-foot-tall, 4,000-pound statue of Mary, the Mother of God, “Notre Dame” (“Our Lady”). Although beautiful from the outside, we also recommend you walk inside the building and look up — your eyes will be drawn up past several rotundas to the beautiful painting inside the dome.
One of Morgan and Nick’s favorite local spots, SBBW has it all! This restaurant and brewery has a great history of investing and giving back in the local community, pursuing sustainable efforts like up cycling their furniture and offering many veggie/vegan options, and being all around great folk! Stop here for a tasty dinner, a fun local beer, and enjoy their patio with your friends, family and even your dog!!
Morgan is OBSESSED with this local bakery -- she might even be heard to say that the cinnamon caramel donut is the best donut you'll ever try in your life!
Macri's is a local *staple*, and has something for everybody! The bakery has a wide selection of delicious desserts (including Italian staples), but the building also has Italian groceries, delicatessen items, and a trattoria serving delicious sandwiches, pastas and pizzas.
Chicory Cafe is a staple in the community, and has recently opened a location in Mishawaka near the Munsen household. Check our their great coffee, baked pastas, and cajun food.
Located in the charming South Bend downtown area, South Bend Chocolate Company has a great little cafe where families can enjoy a sweet treat in their cozy sitting areas.
Fiddler’s is a wonderful Irish pub with live music on weekends and a great atmosphere. Morgan and Nick have made many great memories here over the years.
If you're here early or staying late with some time to spare, consider heading up to Morgan and Nick's favorite distillery for great spirits and great food! Distilled in a former buggy whip and corset factory, be sure to try the namesake "Corsets, Whips and Whiskey" or the special "Old Country Goodness" (apple cider liqueur).
If you're in the mood for ramen, check out the people at Nom Nom Pho for some great tonkotsu. Make sure to get the Asian loaded fries appetizer as well!
