Question

What type of mass is the wedding going to be?

Answer

The wedding ceremony will be a Tridentine Rite Latin Mass.

Question

Tridentine Latin, what?

Answer

Do not be afraid. The Tridentine Mass is the mass that was said throughout the whole world from the 16th century until the 2nd Vatican Council (1960's). This mass is approved by the church, so this isn't some crazy thing that we made up!

Question

What is different about the Tridentine Latin Mass from the mass that I am familiar with (the English Mass)?

Answer

Aside from the language, Tridentine masses are different from the typical English Mass (aka Novus Ordo Mass) in several ways. In the Tridentine Mass, symbolism is amplified, and the senses are heightened with the "smells and bells" around you. Everything you see, hear, and smell will be done intentionally to symbolize the greater spiritual truth going on around you. The priest's posture during mass will be ad orientem, which means "to the east", meaning the priest will face the high altar with the people. As often as they were able, churches in the old days were built with the altar facing east in anticipation of the 2nd coming of Christ. The priest faces this way to show that he is offering prayers to God together with the people. The priest will also say some of the prayers in a low voice so that you won't be able to hear him. Again, this is because he is offering his prayers to God on our behalf (similar to the Holy of Holies in the Old Testament).

Question

How do I know what is going on during mass?

Answer

There will be booklets available for everyone to use which will guide you through each part of the mass. In each book, the left side of the book contains the Latin prayers, while the right side has the direct English translation. Additionally, in the margins of each page there are illustrations of the priest and altar servers and explanations that correspond to the prayers being said. As previously stated, a large part of the Latin mass is symbolism, so the pictures and explanations can help guide you if you lose track of the prayers. If you prefer, sitting and watching the mass happen around you without the book is perfectly acceptable too. If you have any questions regarding our wedding mass, please reach out to Justin or Laura, who can answer these questions and/or point you in the right direction. Thank you for participating in the most important part of our wedding day with us!

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

We would encourage you to arrive no later than 15 minutes before the wedding in order to find your seat and take time to ready yourself for mass.

Question

What do I do after the wedding mass?

Answer

There will be about a 2-3 hour break between the mass and the reception, so you can do whatever you want in that time frame! You might want to take a nap, grab a snack, or see the city. Just keep in mind that the reception does not start until 6pm. For ideas of fun things to do during this time, or any other time you are free during our wedding weekend, please see the "Things To Do" tab, where we have compiled some ideas for you!

Question

It's going to be a hot day in June. Will we be outside?

Answer

The short answer is no. Both the ceremony and reception will be indoors with air conditioning, so the only time you really need to be outside is when you are traveling to each venue. It may be good to note, though, that the air conditioning in the church does not work very well, so while it will not be the scorching heat of a June afternoon under the sun, you might not want to wear a thick sweater.

Question

How do I get to the reception venue?

Answer

The Kolping center is on West Mill Road (exact address on "Schedule" tab), but for some GPS's, it will come up under Mill Road. If you are having trouble finding the address on your phone, try taking the "West" out of the address. Additionally, there are soccer fields on the Kolping center property. If you pass the Kolping soccer fields and still haven't found the reception hall, you've gone too far. From the Springhill Suites in Forest Park, you want to take 275N toward 71 and Columbus and take exit 36 toward Mt. Healthy. Turn left onto Hamilton Ave towards Mt. Healthy, turn left onto Springdale Rd, and turn right onto (West) Mill Rd. From Embassy Suites in Covington, take 75N and take exit 4 onto 74W toward Indianapolis. Take exit 18 toward Colerain Ave, turn right onto Virginia Ave, keep right onto Ashtree Dr, bear left onto Hamilton Ave, turn right onto Miles Rd, then continue onto Mills Rd.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Heck. Freaking. Yes.

For all the days along the way
