TAP is a GREAT option whether you're flying out from the East or West Coast and tickets are relatively well-priced with a bit of advanced planning. However, an *important note* for our light-packing pals: TAP will allow carry-on luggage, but the weight limit is 8 kilos (a little over 17 lbs). On your outbound trip to LIS, the airline will not weigh your bags - but they almost always weigh them at your gate in the Lisbon airport and usually charge anywhere from 100 to 200 euros to check an overweight carry-on. (We learned this the hard way, obviously!) For this reason, we recommend springing for flights with the option to check a bag to avoid large fees at the end of the trip.
Ubers are not only very affordable in Portugal, but also extremely easy to get within Lisbon and will also take you to nearby must-see spots (e.g. Sintra, Cascias, etc.). However, if you wish to do a lot of traveling outside of Lisbon before / after the wedding or throughout your visit, you may want to consider a car rental, which is easy to pick up at the LIS airport. In Portugal, they drive on the right side of the road and the highways make car travel fairly quick throughout the country!
Although we love your little ones, our wedding weekend events will be adults-only!
If you would like to bring little ones along on your trip, please make childcare plans accordingly! The hotels listed on our Travel & Accommodations page will likely have contacts and recommendations, but if you have any issues, please reach out to us directly.
Yes! We will have transportation from the Sheraton Hotel and the Sofitel to our wedding venue prior to the ceremony. Shuttle schedules will be provided! However, Uber is extremely accessible in and around Lisbon and there will be parking on-site, should you prefer to travel separately.
In Alexa’s (almost!) expert opinion, walking around Lisbon is the best way to see its magic. However, it can be quite hilly in some neighborhoods and most streets are cobblestone. We recommend bringing your best walking shoes if you plan to sightsee on foot – and Google Maps is your friend!
Yes, to both! Did we mention easy to get and affordable? Uber also makes for very quick travel throughout Lisbon proper.
The weather in October is typically dry and will range from anywhere between high 60s / low 70s to a potential perfect 80-degree beach day. And now...everyone please knock on wood!
While we can’t predict the weather, we anticipate that the ceremony and cocktail hour will be outdoors and uncovered, and we will be in a closed tent for the reception. The venue site is on a hill overlooking the Tagus River and can get a bit windy at night, so we recommend the ladies bring scarves or wraps, just in case!
